The mortar was a weapon employed for high angle fire against advancing infantry and fixed emplacements and was used very effectively throughout all theatres of combat. Consisting of a base and a tube with a bi-pod support which launched a high explosive charge with a rage of up to 1,800 yards, it was a simple yet effective battle weapon.
